Global warming refers to the increase in the temperature of the Earth’s near-surface air and oceans.  Research has shown that global warming is caused by the build-up of harmful greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.  Severe consequences of global warming include retreating glaciers, rising sea levels, and an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events.

Perhaps one of the most significant sources contributing to global warming are the massive levels of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions being released into our atmosphere.  Carbon dioxide is released during the burning of fossil fuels to provide the energy and services we use every day.  The average U.S. household of two produces over 41,500 pounds of CO₂ annually.*

The good news is that we have the ability to reverse the effects of global warming by releasing less and offsetting more carbon dioxide.  This is a global issue which requires global attention from environmentally conscious individuals and businesses alike doing their part in reducing their respective levels of CO₂ emissions.
